Removing Baseboard Molding

You must remove any existing baseboard molding and any door frame molding where you will be installing WireTracks. To reduce damage to the walls, we recommend caution and patience during this process.

One of the most effective methods for removing baseboard molding that we’ve discovered involves using an automotive-style dent puller which is available at most automotive part stores. This reduces damage to the walls and the baseboard molding, allowing you to reuse the baseboard (if desired).

To remove baseboard molding using an automotive-style dent puller, make sure you are wearing safety glasses or goggles and follow these steps:

1. Find an end of one of the baseboards that is not in an inside corner. If you are planning to reuse the baseboard, choose a location that is inconspicuous.

2. Drill a pilot hole in the baseboard.

3. Screw the dent puller into the hole.

4. Use the weight to gently “tap” the baseboard from the wall.

5. Carefully remove the baseboard. If you cannot easily remove it, drill another pilot hole further down the board and repeat these steps.

6. Repeat these steps for each length of baseboard molding you plan to remove.
