Installing WireTracks

Installing WireTracks creates a lot of dust. Before you begin, make sure to lay out some type of covering over the floor. To install WireTracks in a remodel application, follow these steps:

1. Make sure you are wearing safety goggles, protective gloves, and a dust mask.

2. Remove any existing baseboard molding. See Removing Existing Molding.

3. Place the WireTracks wiring channel along the base of the wall.

4. Use a pencil to mark where you will be cutting directly above the wiring channel.

5. Locate your wallboard cutting saw.
Warning: You do not always know what is behind the wallboard. Cutting deeper than the thickness of the wallboard can result in damage to your home, electrocution, or death.
If you choose to use a power saw to cut the wallboard, make sure to use a high quality electric or battery-powered circular saw with an appropriate blade and set it to cut no deeper than 1/2 inch. Do not use a reciprocating saw, such as a jigsaw or a Sawzall(tm).

6. Cut about 1/8” above the line that you marked.

7. Remove the cut wallboard.

8. Remove any nails or screws where the wiring channel will be installed.

9. Measure the length of the opening and cut the WireTracks channel to that length. If the size of the opening is longer than the WireTracks wiring channel, use additional lengths of WireTracks.

10. Install the WireTracks wiring channel using the included screws. Make sure to reinforce it next to the connecting points.
Note: If you are using more than one WireTracks channel, you can tape the back of the channels together using electrical tape.

11. Install the WireTracks wiring channel cover.

12. Cut the molding to the same length as the channel cover.

13. Apply glue to the wiring channel cover.

14. Attach the molding to the wiring channel cover.

15. Wait until the glue is well adhered and remove the wiring channel cover/baseboard assembly.

16. Use the included wood screws to firmly attach the cover to the baseboard molding.

17. Reinstall the wiring channel cover.
